Marbella Areas descriptions

Marbella

Fishing village made popular as a holiday resort by the Jet set since the early 50’s. This now internationally renowned holiday resort is recognized for having Europe’s best climate with more than 320 days of sunshine and an average temperature of 20ºC.

Marbella counts several five star hotels, 15 golf courses, 4 ports including the famous Puerto Banús, large shopping malls, international restaurants, tennis clubs and sports clubs, international schools and over 30 km of sandy beaches.

The expat community is strong all year around and many have choosen Marbella to retire or to spend regular holidays due to the combination of good quality living, sound infrastructure, golden beaches and of course probably the best weather in Europe.  The most famous areas are The Golden Mile, Puerto Banús, Sierra Blanca, Nueva Andalucia, Los Monteros and Hacienda las Chapas.

The Golden Mile refers to the area between Marbella Town and Puerto Banús. It is on the beach side of the Golden Mile that Prince Max von Hohenlohe bought a finca in 1946 that his son Alfonso converted into a boutique hotel now the Marbella Club Five star hotel and placed Marbella on the map as an International holiday resort for the Jet set and aristocracy. The late king Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al Saud had his holiday palace named the ´´The White House´´ surrounded by numerous other palaces for his entourage on the hills above The Golden Mile.

The Golden Mile is a well-established area and along this stretch alone there are several Leading Hotels of the World, designer boutiques and luxury shops. There is a vast selection fine cuisine on offer with gourmet café bars, wine bars serving tapas and international restaurants. The area also boasts infamous night clubs where during the summer months international stars from the music scene entertain. Several sport’s clubs offer tennis or paddle courts and state of the art gymnasiums.

On the sea front there are excellent chiringuitos and beach restaurants, where you can enjoy the catch of the day.  Simply relax at one of the stunning Beach Clubs or let your hair down and enjoy a ride on a jet sky at one of the water sports points on the Golden Mile.

Puerto Banús

Puerto Banús is a marina with great atmosphere and lots of luxury shops, bars and restaurants. This is where the young and beautiful people are having fun day and night. The front of the marina is the perfect location to watch luxury yacht, sports cars and celebrities.
The marina is surrounded by sandy beaches on either sides that are hosting beach restaurants, music beach bars and chiringuitos.  There are several commercial centres (El Corte Ingles, Marina Marbella and Cristamar) where you will find everything you may need.

Every Saturday morning there is an antique and flee market starting from the Avenida Jose Banús all the way up the Bull ring of Nueva Andalucia. During the summer months the Antonio Banderas Square, named after the famous movie actor who has his second residence in Marbella, is filled with activities for children and small shops selling art craft.

Sierra Blanca

Luxury urbanisation with 24/7 security located on the hills of Marbella above The Golden Mile. Area of predominately luxury contemporary villas and apartments enjoying panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea to Africa and surrounded by the mountain of the same name. The town centre of Marbella and the El Corte Ingles shopping centre are easily accessed from Sierra Blanca urbanisation.

Nueva Andalucia

Nueva Andalucia is a well-established district of Marbella which includes Puerto Banús marina with an all year around busy lifestyle, combination of residential and holiday residents. Nueva Andalucia is one of the most popular locations for expatriates to establish their home, golfers to play their favourite sport and families to enjoy holidays on the beaches.
The secret to the success of Nueva Andalucia is that it is a self-contained area that has all the amenities on its door step,  golf courses, tennis clubs, sports centres, health clinics, international schools, shopping centres, bars & restaurants, and it is exceptionally close to Puerto Banùs marina and the beach.

Also referred to as the Golf Valley there are six renowned golf clubs within a short distance. Among them the Aloha Golf Club, where the Andalucian Open has been held at several occasions, Las Brisas and Los Naranjos golf are amongst the most favoured private clubs.  Magna Marbella Golf a fun par 3 course with great views from the trendy Club house. La Dama de Noche Golf offers twilight tee times.

Hacienda las Chapas

Mature area of luxury villas on a green sloping hill offering sea views and 24/7 security. The urbanization located on the East part of Marbella is only a short distance to Cabopino port, golf courses, the English International School and the sandy beaches of Las Chapas.

Elviria

Elviria provides all the services a town needs with several commercial areas where you will find supermarkets, independent shops, international schools and banks. The area has a broad selection of places to wine and dine whether you are looking for a quick tapas or a romantic dinner.  In the summer, Elviria is popular with the Jet set that descends to the famous Nikki Beach Club for champagne parties while enjoying the latest club sounds from international DJ´s and live music.
Some international celebrities such as singer Julio Iglesias have chosen this location for their second residence. The area is renowned for its Golf courses, stunning countryside part of which has been declared a UNESCO World Biosphere Sanctuary.
Elviria is a holiday and residential area offering a wide range of properties such as with private villas, apartment, penthouse and townhouses.

Los Monteros

Los Monteros area is an exclusive beachside location on the East side of Marbella. The prestigious residential area of Los Monteros offers 24/7 security, a five star hotel, residential apartments but mainly private detached houses, from bungalows to luxury mansions. Los Monteros counts some famous residents such as Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith who own a mansion on the beach.
The hotel opens its facilities to local residents at special rates and includes La Cabane Beach Club, a tennis club, a fitness studio, a hairdresser, a solarium, massages, boutique shops, restaurants and bars. By the beach you will find numerous chiringuitos typical Spanish beach restaurants.
Opposite Los Monteros you will find Marbella Golf Club, Santa Clara Golf and the Hospital Costa del Sol. The nearest commercial area is 1.5km away and La Cañada, Marbella’s largest shopping centre, is 6 km.

San Pedro De Alcantara

San Pedro is a lively town situated between Puerto Banús and Guadalmina. In the heart of this predominantly Spanish town is the commercial area where you will find numerous supermarkets, independent shops, a church and the local government offices.  There is a great selection of coffee shops, restaurants and bars.
The beachside area has many exciting developments of apartments and detached houses suited to the expatriate community. The area is connecting to Puerto Banús along the beach promenade where you will find fantastic fish restaurants to suit all budgets.

Guadalmina

The area of Guadalmina, made by a golf course of the same name, is divided into two parts, known as Guadalmina Alta and Guadalmina Baja. The area of Guadalmina Alta is made of a mixture of villas, apartment and townhouses serviced by a commercial center. While the area of Guadalmina Baja is mainly composed of prestigious villas and a four star hotel and SPA by the beach.

Estepona

The city center has retained the character of an old Spanish town, while new urbanizations have been successfully developed on either side of the town center. The town center has a buzzing marina with bars and restaurants and one of the largest beach promenades.

The New Golden Mile

This stretch of real estate covers the area from Guadalmina to the door of Estepona town.  With a mix of properties you will find some of the most popular developments of apartments and penthouses with tropical gardens and pools. There are several communities of small houses and luxury prime location plots along this part of the coast. The area has a well-established commercial infrastructure and saw the completion of the tunnel in 2012 making a fast connection to Puerto Banús.

Benahavis

The white washed village of Benahavis town is renowned for being the kitchen of Andalucia due to the high concentration of restaurants in this small village. Over the past years modern developments have been built on the outskirts of the town and new communities have grown.
Benahavis counts with other quality resorts such as La Zagaleta Golf and Country Club; El Madroñal, Marbella Club Golf, La Quinta Golf & SPA Resort, Los Flamingos Golf, El Paraiso, La Alqueria among others. With the improvements over the recent years to the road infrastructure this picturesque and tranquil resort is only a few minutes’ drive to the beaches.

Mijas

Sitio de Calahonda

Sitio de Calahonda, known as Calahonda is an urbanization created in the late sixties at the border of Marbella and Mijas. Calahonda is a popular residential and holiday resort that works as a small village with all necessary services locally such as bars, restaurants, shopping centers, sports clubs, medical centers, banks, nurseries, churches, chiringintos by the beach and a nine hole golf course.
