Costa del Sol Train Service

The Costa del Sol is a step closer to the realization of a much needed train service connecting major towns along the coast.

A project that has been talked about for years has finally reached central government. The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, declared he “is going to make the Costa del Sol train a reality.” He supported his statement by saying that it is a project that is “highly demanded”. The minister has announced a tender for the project for which a budget of 1.2 million euros has been allocated and with the condition that the plans are submitted within a timescale of 18 months.

Currently the train line only runs between Fuengirola and Malaga. The department of transport will address the viability of extending this line to include a connection between Nerja and Malaga, from Fuengirola to Marbella and continuing to Estepona and Algercias. Such an infrastructure would be a significantly impactful and beneficial mode of public transport to the coast. Not only allowing connection between these key towns to be more accessible and faster, a train network will reduce the traffic on our roads.
